CLASSES
WELCOME
Roller Louisiane offers three skating classes weekly and each class is held in a group setting. Classes are open to all, beginners and experienced skaters, locals and visitors alike. If you have a child younger than five (5 years), be sure to read our notes for parents below.

Use this page to learn all about our classes programme.
The elements you'll learn in classes are chosen and customized by the coach who designed the class programme you choose to pursue. Upon registration, each registered student is automatically assigned the rank of C1 and assigned all C1 elements until each C1 element is demonstrated successfully. C1 elements, for example, are forward-skating elements and upon successful demonstration of all C1 element, each student has the option to graduate at the C1 level or continue with C2 elements, which are backward skating elements. As the student nears completion of all C2 elements, the coach may opt to invite the C2 student to continue with C3 elements as a cadet in training for a future in roller sports. For any student who is not invited to continue to C3 or any who declines the invitation, the student in question may graduate at the C2 level when all C2 elements are successfully demonstrated. Cadets are C3-level students who are invited by the coach and who have accepted the elements associated with their rank as well as unique requirements that must be met before the Cadet can graduate at the C3/Cadet level, and begin training, test, and competing as an MA-1 representing Roller Louisiane.
Curriculum
If you've ever attended a rink's public skating session, for fun, you may remember the exciting music and floor lighting with all its variations. For classes, we've made some adjustments: The music's volume is lowered considerably, the white overhead lighting is used exclusively, all arcade games are turned off, and the snack bar as well as the interior playground areas are closed.
Environment
Equipment is not required and the cost of renting skates for classes is included, if rentals are needed, or deemed best by the coach in charge of the class. For example, anyone who has their own equipment (skates) for classes, be sure your wheels roll (spin) freely for at least ten seconds (10s). If not, adjustments will be made or your equipment will be replaced with rental skates.
Restrictions
For Jenna's classes, both quads and inlines are welcome and issued. For Brian's classes, only quads are allowed and issued.
Equipment
Since September 2021, Roller Louisiane and its programmes are hosted by Fun Nation, formerly Skate Zone, which has been serving Lafayette and our region for over 60 years. For directions to our facility, please use the link in the Google Map below.
Facility
Roller Louisiane is an official roller sports club registered, insured, and recognized as such by USA Roller Sports, the only National Sports Federation ("NF") or national governing body of roller sports recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC). Our club charter and host facility are bound by the rules and regulations set forth and enforced by USA Roller Sports. Our programmes, including Classes (this) and Athletics, are unique to our club and its students, athletes, apprentices, coaches, and other affiliates/participants.

TRY US OUT
Roller Louisiane's pros specialize in three unique roller sports and each coach's programme is structured accordingly in its own way. With this in mind, we encourage you to try both coaches over time to determine how both will prepare you as a hobbyist, prospective athlete, or enhance any roller sport you're already practicing for another club, team, or league. Learn more about each coach and specifications you may want to remain aware prior to arriving for classes.
Before You Buy Skates
Before you buy equipment, you should first and always consult with your pro (coach)—even when you've been at it awhile. Whether you're an adult or a parent buying for a minor in your household, whether your future equipment will be used for recreation or sports, there's a solution out there and far too many pitfalls you won't know to avoid. Always contact and consult with your pro before you ever purchase skates or parts thereof from anywhere.
NOTES FOR PARENTS
You've probably seen people of all ages skating and walking on the floor during public skating sessions. However, classes are not public skating sessions. We encourage everyone to overtly acknowledge and practice the rules set by the facility and kindly correct one another when we need reminders. The rules are simple and become second nature after a time or two.

Stay Off the Floor
While inside the facility, never walk or run on the skating floor for any reason. If you're not wearing skates, don't even step onto or stand on the floor (your sweat makes it slippery). Exceptions: Only a coach or apprentice will make exceptions to this rule.

Rink Culture
When you are skating on the floor during a public skating session (not classes), respect the rings and flow. A skating rink has an outer ring, where you'll find the floor's fastest skaters, and an inner ring, where the slowest skaters should be skating. Each ring is oval in nature with two straightaways and four corners. Both rings have a common flow too, which is called all-skate. In classes, you learn that this is called an all-skate flow or sinistral (leftward) flow. are flowing in an all-skate (leftward/sinistral) direction. Depending on how busy the rink is, you have 3-4 flows.

BEFORE YOU ARRIVE
All adults, whether participating or observing their children/minors participate, must agree and complete the requirements. In an effort to streamline things, we make it easy for all by requiring all adults of legal age (18+) to create an account on our website, so you can confirm your review and acceptance of our website's terms, which already include the waivers required by both the facility (rink) and the club (Roller Louisiane).
