Classes
Start Here.
Roller Louisiane offers two types of skating classes.
Use this ProGuide to learn about both and get complete programme details for each.

overview
Roller Louisiane is a roller sports club made up of coaches, parents, athletes and students specializing in Artistic (roller figure skating) and/or Speed (roller speed skating). Each sport/coach has their own programmes across all levels—Classes, Athletics, Testing, Competing—with each being designed, led, and managed by its head coach: Brian Clary for artistic or Jenna Guidry for speed. Brian is supported by Siobhán Jordan (Coach) and by Anne "Annie" Mahoney (Apprentice, MA-1). Jenna is supported by JP Poupart (Coach).

commonalities
Both programmes are held in-person at the same host facility, Fun Nation, in #LafayetteLA. Both programmes are appropriate for beginners. Both are open to most ages (5+) and are regularly attended by both adults and minors alike. Both include rentals (skates) if needed. Both programmes have off-skates and on-skates elements.
Both programmes are designed to guide you from complete beginner all the way, should you choose, to elite roller sports athlete. Both programmes provide advantages that attract athletes specializing in other sports.

Both sports are led by professional coaches who began exactly where you are today.

nuances
Artistic Classes are offered on Saturday mornings. Speed Classes are offered on Wednesday and Saturday evenings. Generally speaking, if you want to learn to skate forward and backwards, Artistic Classes will be a better fit. If you're a die-hard inline enthusiast, Speed Classes are best. Continue using this ProGuide to learn more.

equipment
For artistic classes, quads must be used or rented. Speed Classes welcome both quads and inlines.
Never wear your skates into the rink. We are an indoor facility, which requires the use of indoor equipment. There is no such thing as hybrid wheels (sorry). Our floor's poly coating is precious to us: Never bring equipment (skates/wheels) that have been used outdoors or on comparable rough surfaces an indoor rink. Read and familiarize yourself with all facility rules and never ever walk on the skating surface for any reason.

environment
If you've ever attended a public skating session ("Session") in North America, you probably recall bright lights or darkness, loud music, arcade games being played, and on-floor games associated with public skating times. Classes are conducted with low music, white lights, no arcade games or other distractions, but do include games and other challenges.

Languages
Artistic classes are always led in a multilingual environment based on students in attendance. Each registered participant indicates their preferred language of instruction when registering for classes and can choose from the following: French, English, Spanish, German, or Italian.

facility
Fun Nation is Roller Louisiane's host facility and it has served Lafayette and our region's locals and visitors alike for over 60 years. Fun Nation offers public skating hours ('sessions'), events, and is the USA Roller Sports facility for artistic (Roller Louisiane), speed (Roller Louisiane), and home to a roller derby league (Acadiana Roller Derby). For more information about this facility, including directions, use the map below.

floor
Both programmes take place on a flat wooden surface with a polyurethane coating, last re-coated in September 2024. The floor approximately 50m (165 ft) in length by 20m (65 feet) in width.
