CA-1

ProGuide

When you register yourself or a minor for Saturday morning classes, the student starts with our first of three student ranks: CA-1.

Use this ProGuide to learn everything about this programme and rank.

overview

The coach arrives at 8:45 AM to prep the floor and set any rentals out that you may have requested during check-in.

For the first hour (9-10 AM) the coach holds group instruction reserved for athletes and cadets (CA-3). During this time, we encourage students (you) to register (if needed), check in in via mobile devices, pick up rentals (if needed), and begin using the floor.

Instruction for your group (CA-1 and CA-2) is held from 10-11 AM.

content

At this level, we kick off each class with our skates tied and ready to go. At 10:00 AM, we start a 5-minute warm-up topic relative to the experience of students present, such as identifying rink norms, tying skates, entering and exiting the floor, as well as choosing and maintaining equipment. During this time, we include non-skating parents (NSPs) so parents can learn alongside their children.

All students with a current rank of CA-1 learn to identify, practice, and demonstrate this rank's 15 forward-skating elements, with examples to strengthen your foundation from starting and stopping, to skating around corners (cornering), skating on one-foot,  skating in circles and in groups, as well as cross-overs and more.

CA-1 elements are the foundation for everything, recreational skating and roller sports alike.

facility

Fun Nation is Roller Louisiane's host facility and it has served Lafayette and our region's locals and visitors alike for over 60 years. Fun Nation is offers public skating hours ('sessions'), events, and is the USA Roller Sports facility for artistic (Roller Louisiane), speed (Roller Louisiane), and home to a roller derby league (Acadiana Roller Derby). For more information about this facility, including directions, use the map below.

floor

Fun Nation's skating surface is a wooden floor measuring 50 x 20 meters (165 x 65 feet).

For roller derby and speed skating, Fun Nation is considered a 'Facility' because its markings meet the standards for holding sanctioned events such as bouts (derby) and races (speed). At this time, artistic athletes should note that it does not have sufficient distance (floor to ceiling) for select pairs lifts, nor enough figures circles (1 set of 3), nor any loop circles.
